In this day and age when there are so many makeup and skincare brands available to us, it’s easy to get swept up and want to try every new item you see. The truth of the matter is, among even high-end products there will be hits but there will be plenty of misses, and that takes a toll on the wallet.
Aside from the financial aspect, there are always health concerns. As the need for a more natural approach to makeup increases, it is definitely high time to turn to DIY and see what kind of amazing concoctions we can create in our very own homes.
Believe it or not, almost everything you need for a gorgeous face is right there in your home already, so why not roll up your sleeves and give it a go. Who knows, you might actually end up being the creator of your own Holy Grail products and never look back.
Start from the top
In order for your makeup to sit just right you have to do your due diligence and take skincare seriously. Now, facial creams can be quite pricey and sometimes they don’t live up to their promise, and that’s exactly why you should give making your own a go. For this recipe you will need the following – one cup of aloe vera gel, ¾ ounces of beeswax, ¼ cup of almond oil, ¼ cup of coconut oil and 10 drops of essential oils (any that you know doesn’t cause an allergic reaction is good), so make sure you try and test it.
Then, you’ll need a chocolate or soap melter and a blender. Begin by melting the beeswax and coconut oil in the almond oil. Place the mix in the blender and let it cool off for about an hour. Mix aloe vera and your chosen essential oil separately, then turn on the blender and start pouring the mix in slowly.
Voila, you’re done, just place it in an empty container and you have your very own moisturizer. Of course, don’t forget to drink plenty of water and take your Solgar vitamins, as what goes into your body is equally important as what goes on your face.
One of the newest products on the market is the eyeshadow primer, but we have to admit that some of them cost as much as a full-size foundation and that can frequently be out of our price range. You definitely don’t have to spend extra money on a product like this as you can make it all on your own.
All you need is – a bit of foundation, concealer, 100% aloe vera gel, a thick moisturizer (take some of the one you made), a toothpick, a small tub and a flat scooping utensil. Add the foundation first, followed by concealer and then place the moisturizer. After that add just a drop of the aloe gel, and mix it with the toothpick until you get an even-toned homogenous mass. There, all done and with all the products you already own.
The one that’s just right
How many times have you splurged on a foundation only to come back and be disappointed with the fact that once again, it’s not the perfect one? It’s either patchy, not the right shade, not great for your skin type. Your hunting days are over because now you can manufacture your own and get it right every single time.
Bonus – it also protects the skin as it contains SPF. The original recipe was found on the amazing Pronounce Skincare, and we gave it a go. It looks amazing, it doesn’t crease nor is it cakey and you can apply it with your fingers or use a beauty blender. Make sure you try it, as we swear by it.
The two in one
There are very few of us who don’t appreciate a good multi-purpose product. This next recipe is for a blush/lip tint, and it’s super easy to make. For this great concoction you’ll need 1 tsp of organic almond oil, 1 tsp of organic beet root powder and 1 tsp 100% pure lanolin, and if you can’t find that, shea butter works great too.
Use a small saucepan and fill it with approximately about 1 cup of water and place a glass measuring cup inside it and keep the heat low. Put the lanolin and almond oil inside the measuring cup and stir until it’s nice and melted. Once that part is done, just add the beet powder and stir and stir until it’s nice and evenly mixed.
This tint doesn’t only give you a gorgeously flushed look, but it also nourishes both the lips and the cheeks. Plus, it’s great for creating the very trendy monochromatic looks.
Once all your amazing home-made products are sitting nicely on the face it’s time to seal the deal. yes, we’re talking about the setting spray, and believe it or not, this can be made at home as well. First, you need to provide a clean spray bottle, of course.
Then, you’ll need three tsp of bottled water, one tsp of glycerin, a funnel and a few drops of essential oil. Pour the glycerin into a bowl, add the water and mix until you get an even mixture. After that pour the oil and using your funnel pour the contents into your spray bottle. That’s it – easy peasy.
